Dog walkers – please keep your dogs under control and clear up after them. Respect your countryside
The land around Haconby and Stainfield is farmland, used for growing crops. These crops are vital to our farmers’ livelihoods, our food supply and our country’s economy.
Dog walkers are therefore requested to be responsible and respect our countryside. Please keep your dog on a lead when walking along public rights of way on farmland. Please clear up after your dog after it defecates, wherever it defecates. After clearing up, please deposit the bag(s) in one of the SKDC litter bins in the villages or in your black bin at home. Please do not litter the countryside with bags of dog mess – it is environmentally unfriendly and can be a threat to livestock and deer.
SKDC’s Enviro Crime Enforcement Policy includes a Public Space Protection Order (Dog Control Order), which can result in a Fixed Penalty Notice if contravened:
- Fouling – a person commits an offence if, whilst in charge of a dog, within the SKDC area he fails to remove faeces from land which is open to the air and to which the public are entitled or permitted to have access.
Members of the public can report dog owners who do not pick up after their dogs in public places (not privately owned areas such as gardens) to SKDC via this link https://www.southkesteven.gov.
The online report requires your name, your telephone number or email address. It will ask if you witnessed the incident and to provide the location, with as much detail as you can (landmarks, grid reference or ‘What Three Words – https://what3words.com/about).
